CRUISE TO THE HEART OF A GREEN PARADISE ON A 14-DAY AMAZON RIVER EXPEDITION
PRINCETON, N.J. (September 16, 2010) – Explore the mighty Amazon on board Compagnie du Ponant’s Le Levant as she slips through mysterious waterways, penetrating this green paradise on a 14-day Amazon River expedition.
On this expedition, you will find wild symphony of luscious vegetation.  It’s a place where nature teems with excess, where giant trees reach for the sky in search of light, where the density and variety of green hues never fails to amaze, and where a river constantly changes from wide calm stretches to narrow, sinuous bends.
According to the cruise experts at Crown Cruise Collection, the awesome beauty of the river, the magic of the skies and the nights, the discovery of unusual fauna and extravagant flora; all will transform you into the explorer you have always dreamed of being. Your outings in the zodiac, by day or night, accompanied by experienced nature guides, will leave you with an intoxicating sense of freedom.
Manaus
Founded in 1670 by the Portuguese, the once small village of Manaus in the heart of the jungle took off in the 19th century when the rubber trade attracted the attention of businessmen from across the world. Today its palaces, opulent residences and opera house built using the most expensive materials imported from Europe bear testimony to the splendor of the past.

Breves narrows
To the right a vast expanse of green rock, to the left a vast expanse of green rock! Le Levant winds her way through one of the Amazon’s narrow “green corridors” where locals in dug-out canoes come out to greet you.

Belem
A gateway to the Amazon, the large port of Belem is also known by the name ‘’City of Mango Trees.” The Para State capital is a seductive town with Baroque-style colonial architecture, colorful markets and pretty cobblestone streets, some leading to the very edge of the jungle. It is impossible not to be won over by the charms of Belem which was once populated by the Tupinambas Indians. Cultural centre of Brazil’s northern region, Belem is home to the federal university of Para and the Goeldi Museum which houses invaluable ethnological and zoological collections.

According to the cruise experts at Crown Cruise Collection, this cruise is truly an expedition. The itinerary will be confirmed on board by the Captain and your Naturalist Guide. At every mooring there is usually an opportunity for a zodiac outing or landing, which could occur during the day and/or at night. The outings give you a chance to observe the fauna and flora at close range and also to meet the local people.

Compagnie du Ponant’s 45-cabin Le Levant departs French Guiana for three upcoming sailings: November 14 – 27, 2010, November 27 – December 10, 2010, and March 14 – March 27, 2011.
